Bicycle Friendly Community Application and Survey

The City of Cedar Rapids recently applied for renewed Bicycle Friendly Community status with hopes to move from Bronze to Silver from the League of American Bicyclists. As part of their review process, the League wants community input on bicycling in Cedar Rapids! Please complete the survey and share your input to help improve our Bicycle Friendly Community status: BFC Survey Link.

Help celebrate the progress by completing the survey!

Edgewood Rd Trail – wow the potential!

Connecting Tower Terrace Rd to the airport by TRAIL is a big dream but it is included in the Linn County and Cedar Rapids Bikeway and Trail Plan just updated this year. One of the fundraising goals for 2026-2027 will include a segment of this trail. LCTA is excited to announce this fall. Watch for it!

Progress on the Morgan Creek Trail east of the Cedar River and beyond

Phase one section of trail goes from 42nd St. next to Xavier High School to the Cedar River. The bridge over the railroad has been completed and grading has begun at 42nd St. and going along the west side of Xavier HS. The final completion date has not been set. Future Bridge…fingers crossed funding will be secured for design as the recent request was not granted. On phase four negotiations are ongoing.

CEMAR- seeing the light

2026 will be a magical year for trails. CEMAR is expected to be finished. Three bridges will be placed this winter/spring to set the stage for trail construction. At a recent LCTA meeting, $20,000 was given to the City of Cedar Rapids to complete the 100 ft link between Marion and Cedar Rapids. We are excited to be part of the ribbon cutting next year!

Updates for the Grant Wood Trail
Updates for the Grant Wood Trail

Grant Wood Trail- Paralta to Hwy 1 - then to Springville!

Planning work is ongoing for the next section from Paralta Rd. to Hwy 1 (Springville Rd.) Bidding for this section of trail will be done this winter and construction in 2026. This section will be a crushed limestone trail. Completion of the trail from the GWT to Springville will be at least 5 years away but wow it will be wonderful. The trail alignment will follow along Springville Road. At Hwy 151 there will be an overpass.

E-Bike riders
E-Bike riders

Yes, E Bikes are here to stay on trails - but motorized bikes are different

More and more ebikes are seen on Linn county trails. E bikes require some effort by riders and speed should be kept to < 20 mph. The motorized bikes require no effort, often gas powered and often go faster than 20 mph. The Cities and County are aware of this issue and will be creating signage to reflect the correct vehicles allowed on trails. Check the Safety & Courtesy page on our website as well as the Iowa Code definition of E Bikes.

Trails Need YOUR support and we are so delighted the Business Community has stepped up to help! Nearly all trail projects incorporate federal and state funding, requiring local jurisdictions to provide a 20 percent local match. Your personal donation can help make the match!

“Our company donates to trails because they are a real asset to communities, for recreation and health. Employers find them to be helpful in hiring and retaining employees.” - Mike W
